Lost or stolen Joker Card
Recovery depends almost entirely on one thing: whether you still have the card number. Here is what to do, in order.
If you still have the card number, call customer service immediately and report the card lost or stolen. Every hour of delay is time for someone else to spend the balance, and there is no chargeback process behind a prepaid card.
What you need in order to be helped
Customer service identifies your funds by the card number and nothing else. If you have it, you have a case. If you do not, there is realistically nothing anyone can do — the card is cash dropped in the street.
Before calling, gather:
- The 16-digit card number, from a photo, the packaging or a confirmation email
- The expiry date
- The original purchase receipt showing the load amount
- Where and roughly when the card was bought
- The last transaction you recognise, and anything you do not
Step by step
- Call the official number — 1-855-288-0926 for balance and general enquiries, or the number printed on your own card materials. Report it lost or stolen and ask for the card to be blocked.
- Ask what remains. If a balance is still there, ask whether a replacement can be issued and note any replacement fee.
- Write down the call: date, time, agent name, reference number. You will need this if you have to escalate.
- Report unauthorised spending to customer service and to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre. If the card was physically stolen, file a police report too — some issuers require a file number.
- Follow up in writing if the call does not resolve it, quoting your reference number.
What is realistically recoverable
| Your situation | Realistic outcome |
|---|---|
| You have the number and receipt, balance untouched | Good chance of a replacement carrying the balance |
| You have the number but the balance is spent | Report it; recovery is possible but not likely |
| You have the receipt but not the number | Call anyway — some retailers can retrieve the number from the transaction |
| You have neither | Effectively unrecoverable |
| Drained before you ever used it | Report as tampering with receipt and packaging; see card draining |
Protecting the next card
- Photograph the front and back the day you receive it, stored somewhere private
- Photograph the receipt too — thermal paper fades to blank within months
- Keep the packaging until the balance is spent
- Treat the card like the cash it is, and do not post photos of it
- Spend it within a few months rather than leaving it in a drawer
- Never send photos of the card to anyone who asks — see scams
Keep it in a private album or password manager, not a shared cloud folder or a group chat. Anyone who sees the front and back can spend it.
Frequently asked questions
Can a lost Joker Card be replaced?
Sometimes — but only if you have the card number, and usually the purchase receipt. Without the number there is nothing to identify your funds. This is why photographing the card matters.
Is a prepaid card protected like a debit or credit card?
No. Prepaid cards behave like cash. There is no chargeback right and no account to freeze, which is exactly why they are targeted.
What will customer service ask for?
The 16-digit card number, the expiry date, where and when you bought it, the load amount, and the purchase receipt. Have all of it ready before you call.
Someone used my card without permission. Can I dispute it?
Report it to customer service immediately using the number on your card. Outcomes vary and are not guaranteed, but reporting fast gives the best chance and creates the record you need.
